At this pace, work could become optional around age 59, earlier than the retirement age you set, once your corpus reaches about ₹7.97 Cr. That is the point money stops being the reason you work.

Educational estimate, not financial advice. Assumes 6% inflation, 7% post-retirement returns, and a life expectancy of 85. Your real numbers will vary.

How much do you actually need to retire?

Most people have no idea whether they are on track for retirement, and the calculators that are meant to help just hand over a large number with no context. Is ₹5 crore enough? Too much? Nobody tells you. This planner is built to answer the real question you have: am I actually sorted, or not?

It works from your own numbers. Your monthly expenses today are grown by inflation to the year you retire, then multiplied out to a corpus that can fund that lifestyle until roughly age 85. Your current savings and monthly investments are projected forward at a return that matches how you invest. Compare the two and you get a straight verdict, plus the exact monthly top-up to close any gap.

The freedom number takes it further. Instead of assuming you work until 60, it finds the earliest age your corpus could cover your expenses for good. That is the point money stops being the reason you work, and for disciplined savers it often arrives earlier than expected.

Common questions

How much money do I need to retire in India?+

It depends on your monthly expenses, how far away retirement is, and inflation. As a rough guide, you need a corpus that can fund your inflation-adjusted expenses from the day you retire until roughly age 85. This calculator works that out from your own numbers and shows the exact figure, rather than a generic multiple.

What is a freedom number or FIRE number?+

Your freedom number is the corpus at which your investments can cover your living expenses indefinitely, so working becomes optional rather than necessary. It is the core idea behind FIRE (Financial Independence, Retire Early). The tool shows both the number and the earliest age you could reach it at your current savings rate.

How much should I invest every month for retirement?+

Enough that your projected corpus meets what you will actually need. If there is a shortfall, the tool tells you the specific extra amount to invest each month to close it. You can also adjust your retirement age or expected returns and see the effect instantly.

Is this retirement calculator accurate?+

The maths is deterministic and standard: future value for your savings and monthly investments, and an inflation-adjusted annuity for the corpus you will need. It assumes 6% inflation, 7% post-retirement returns, and a life expectancy of 85. Real markets vary, so treat the result as a well-grounded estimate, not a guarantee.

Does this work for early retirement (FIRE)?+

Yes. Set a lower retirement age, or look at the freedom number, which tells you the earliest age work becomes optional. The what-if simulator also lets you model retiring several years early and see whether your plan still holds.

Is my financial data private?+

Completely. Every calculation runs in your browser. There is no sign-up, and nothing you enter is ever sent to a server or stored anywhere.
